OxyRub has two modes of action; first pain reducing, second antiphlogistic (inflammation inhibiting) action. The reduction of the pain is achieved by supplying the pain receptors with oxygen. With the help of the peroxydised fatty acids (carrier substance) oxygen is transported in areas where it is deficient. The oxygen supply is restored and pain reduced.

The anti-inflammatory effect of this active oxygen oil is caused by replacing the arachidonic acid.* This acid is the starting point in the synthesis of prostaglandins by photo-oxygenising the arachidonic acid.

Arachis hypogea is a calcium-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase (CnCDPK) that specifically phosphorylates a peptide (MLCpep) representing the phosphate-accepting domain of smooth muscle myosin light chains and stabilizing the cell membrane phospholipids  (stoping phosphorylation and calcium ion influx) thereby halting the action of Phospholipase A.  Again, OxyRub works by regulation of phosphorylation and calcium concentrations.

Normally phosphorylation is coupled with an influx of calcium ions, PLA2 becomes stimulated and can translocate to the membrane to begin catalysis, i.e., activation of the Arachidonic Acid Cascade.
